The Best Part...
The best part of this project was making a difference in a childß life. I enjoyed taking time out of my
Me to have the experience, which forever staywth me. It made me happy inside b give a gift of reading and end with a
surprise. I know me going through this experience has changed several children's lives. I rope they never forget me and my visit
The most beneficial partof this is that I was able take I know from this reading class and and teach it to the kids at the sch0d What I did was
before I read had the kids pre-read. These kids are smart. They were able to predict and then do the durinweading process and figure he main idea of story
in a matter of seconds.
The best in my group had trouble speaking like howl was in grade school. that. I I could tell him what it was like
for me end how poetry really helped me all through school. Then read poetry books to him before the give away part. I helped him.
The most challenging thirg was practicing what my Instructor taught and actually puting it to use. And also by just being
social and entertaining the children. I learned to be calm not get worked up over this. In the end it
is all worth it and made me feel happy and accomplished.
Posted below are a few quotes from tutors
involved with Literacy Outeach.
'l was able to learn alot through out the amount of
time that I spent enrolled in this class. Bem taking
this course I was informed about dffgent strategies on
howto learn and I had heard of programs such as ELL.
However, after learning the content that this course has
to Offer, I learned mcre in depth about howto understand
the struggles that English learner stu&nts have. I
learned how to uork Wth those students and all students
in a way that will hdp them imgove and go far in their
education. •
•This was a very good experience because it is the first
online class that I have taken and now I knowwhat I
need to do in to succeedin an online dass.•
•l ddn't elen know about things like Animoto and
Evernote before this dass, but I'm gladl do now and I
use them all the time.'
•My knowledge of the course content really helped me
connect and intuact Wth the tutees during the tutuing
session and it was great because it made teaching the
stu&nts about the content a lot easiå. This not only
helped me interact Wth the students but it helped the
stu&nts become comfortade and learn as they
should.'
•l thought that taking a college course would be very
dfficult but it is not as I had imagined, It was challengng
but in a positive way because it me think critically:
'l feel after, nearly completing the course, that my
knodec&e has increased on how to a computer for
an online dass. Prior to the course I have never
introduced to Canvas, and now feel like I am able to be
on the course.
What did I learn?
This project helped me With active reading, main deas, and helped me learn the PRO system Of
reading. It is different talking and learning about the instructor has been teaching us this
semester. To physically practice what weve been taught is even 100% better Gives me a better

Students
in CREIOI are asked
to evaluate the needs Of the
community dong with their own gnrticdar gifts of
talent/time. They serve our community partners in ami capacity
they choose. Whle serving, they i&ntity tip competences of the dass in
the contemporary wodd. They then create Critical Reading portfdios where they find
articles dated to issues discovered during their service. They andyze the articles on
many criteria (as per the course com*tencies) and evduate the andysis skis of their
peers. As a resut of this project, community around us gains hdp in treir worthwhie
endeavors. The stldents, arnong other things, gain valuabe work e4Erience, access to
professiond networks, and critical readng sklls.
Recommendations for future RDG095 classes:
I recommend all future RDG095 students go and donate tmks to dementary kids
it can one of their tpst experiences in life Justlike it was for me.
I recommend that MCC students really try tolearn tmause they wil be paving the
yay of things they krow to others. It is also an amazing experience so dorit miss it.
I think this was the tpst part of ourwhde semester I loved seeing all those happy
faces and it made me fed specid. I think this was an easier way to show what we
know and prwe what we learned in class.
