My parents' divorce left me with a lot of sadness and pain and acting, and especially humour, was my way of dealing with all that.
I think it's what art should do: make you feel less alone - either in the quest for truth or in dealing with any pain you have.
I do think, half of what we call madness is just some poor slob dealing with pain by a strategy that annoys the people around him.
My other work, teaching, also is satisfying because I can be with people but in controlled circumstances, which aren't as likely to yield the pain of dealing with family.
I don't really have a problem with the pain of life. Perhaps that is because I am a martial artist and I am used to dealing with pain. Or perhaps I adjusted to pain because there has been a great deal of it in my life.
Dealing with backstabbers, there was one thing I learned. They're only powerful when you got your back turned.
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
