DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH-6
adüod....
INDIRECT SPEECH TO DIRECT SPEECH
In some examinations a few questions are given for
transformation from Indirect Speech to Direct Speech. It
is the reverse process of Direct Speech to Indirect Speech
All the FOUR major changes have to be kept in mind
while transforming an Indirect Speech sentence into a
Direct Speech sentence. The Changes are:
1 . Change of Reporting Verb
2. Change of Personal Pronouns
3. Change of Tense Forms
4. Change of Nearness to Remoteness
(Please refer page numbers 6 - 9 of this book.)
We have to locate the Reporting Verb and the Reported
Part in the sentence given. If it is an Assertive / Exclamatory
Sentence the conjunction 'that' has to be replaced by a
comma and an inverted comma. The Tense, Person and
Nearness to Remoteness have to be changed depending
upon the given situation.
In case of Interrogative Sentences, the 'Wh' word and
the inversion of S + Ax and Ax + S patterns have to be
checked before transformation. It is very easy to transform
the Imperative Sentences because you have to take out
'to' from the Infinitive verb and place the main verb within
the inverted commas. A few examples are here:
Indirect
