April is Alcohol
Awareness Month
FACT or FICTION?
If a little bit of alcohol makes me feel good, a whole lot
would make me feel great.
FICTION — Alcohol is a biphasic drug, meaning that it starts out as a
stimulant and then becomes a depressant the more heavily it is used.

Alcohol is a good thing to get a good night's sleep.
FICTION — It may help a person fall asleep but it prevents them from
getting into the deeper phases of sleep. Source Alcohol Alert- National

Being able to "hold your liquor" puts you at greater risk for
alcohol problems.
FACT Individuals who can "hold their liquor" tend to drink more, socialize
with people who drink a lot, and develop a tolerance to alcohol, all
increasing the risk for alcoholism. Source Rethinking Drinking, National
Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2009.
